HLTAID011 First Aid
Course Overview
This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to provide a first aid response to a casualty in line with first aid guidelines determined by the Australian Resuscitation Council (ARC) and other Australian national peak clinical bodies.
The unit applies to all individuals who may be required to provide a first aid response in a variety of situations, including community and workplace settings.
Note: Specific licensing or refresher training requirements should be obtained from the relevant state or territory Work Health and Safety Regulatory Authorities.
Course Covers
- How to assess an emergency situation
- DRSABCD action plan and its role in emergency care
- CPR techniques for adults, children, and infants
- Using an Automated External Defibrillator (AED) during cardiac emergencies
- Key first aid procedures for managing bleeding, burns, and fractures
- Handling medical conditions such as anaphylaxis, asthma, and seizures
- Responding to emergencies such as snake and spider bites, poisons, and choking
- Best practices for infection control to ensure safety
- Managing exposure to extreme temperatures
- Administering first aid for eye injuries and soft tissue damage
- Assessing and safely moving the sick or injured
- Understanding the legal responsibilities of a first aider
- Basics of anatomy and physiology
- Techniques for managing shock in emergency situations
Course Delivery
- Delivery Mode: Face-to-face training at one of our locations
- All practical assessments are completed in real time under trainer supervision in a safe and realistic environment.
- Pre-course Requirement: Mandatory eLearning to be completed prior to class.
- Duration: 6 hours of face-to-face CPR and first aid training and assessment.

Upon successful completion, participants will receive a Nationally Recognised Statement of Attainment for:
- HLTAID009 – Provide Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)
