CHC43315 Certificate IV in Mental Health

Course Overview

This qualification reflects the role of workers who provide self-directed, recovery-oriented support for people affected by mental illness and psychiatric disability. Work involves implementing community-based programs and activities focusing on mental health, mental illness, and psychiatric disability.

Employment may be in a range of community contexts such as non-government organisations, home-based outreach, centre-based programs, respite care, residential services, rehabilitation programs, clinical settings, or employment support. Work is carried out autonomously under the guidance of other practitioners and professionals.

Entry Requirements

  • Demonstrate a satisfactory level of Digital Literacy assessment (LLND) and Language, Literacy and Numeracy (LLN) abilities.
  • Hold a current and valid National Police Check (dated within 12 months; online checks accepted).
  • Hold a Department of Communities & Social Inclusion (DCSI) Screening Check for working in the Aged Care Sector and with Vulnerable People.

Course Structure

Duration: 52 weeks (Blended)

Delivery: Class attendance is scheduled for all units over 52 weeks.

Work Placement: 80 hours of vocational placement are required to obtain this qualification.

  • CHCMHS004 – Work Collaboratively with the Care Network and Other Services
  • CHCMHS005 – Provide Services to People with Co-Existing Mental Health and Alcohol and Other Drugs Issues
  • CHCMHS007 – Work Effectively in Trauma-Informed Care
  • CHCMHS008 – Promote and Facilitate Self-Advocacy
  • CHCMHS011 – Assess and Promote Social, Emotional and Physical Wellbeing
  • HLTWHS001 – Participate in Workplace Health and Safety

Elective Units

  • CHCADV001 – Facilitate the Interests and Rights of Clients
  • CHCCCS017 – Provide Loss and Grief Support
  • CHCCCS019 – Recognise and Respond to Crisis Situations
  • CHCCCS020 – Respond Effectively to Behaviours of Concern

Credit for Prior Learning

  • Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL): Available for those with related education or experience.
  • Credit Transfer: Available for previously completed equivalent units.

Fees and Funding

  • Fee for Service: $2,500.00
  • Skills SA Funded Non-Concession: $875.00

  • Incident fees paid by learner:
    • First Aid – $120
    • DCSI – $120

Participant Eligibility Criteria apply for subsidised training.
